Sprint Nextel’s Mobile WiMAX Chief To Kick Off WCA 2008 With Update On Historic XOHM Launch
WASHINGTON, DC (March 25, 2008) – Barry West, Sprint CTO and president of its XOHM business unit, will deliver a keynote address on April 22 helping kick-off WCA 2008 – the wireless broadband industry’s premier global convention organized by the Wireless Communications Association International (WCA). West is expected to discuss his company’s upcoming XOHM mobile WiMAX launch of commercial service in the Metropolitan Washington, Baltimore and Chicago markets.

Barry West is Chief Technology Officer and Xohm Business Unit lead at Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S). He previously served as executive vice president and chief technology officer for Nextel Communications Inc. West joined Nextel in 1996 and is the chief architect in creating the iDEN wireless technology platform with partner Motorola. Prior to joining Nextel, West led many successful engineering and marketing initiatives during more than 35 years for British Telecom including overseeing the rollout of a GSM digital cellular network that covered more than 90 percent of the United Kingdom population in only nine months. West also served as director of value-added services and corporate marketing at Cellnet, the pioneer of cellular communications in the United Kingdom.
Closely watched around the world, Barry West has been leading Sprint Nextel’s revolutionary initiative to build a Mobile WiMAX advanced multimedia network. “WCA is thrilled to host Barry at our convention due to anticipation of Sprint’s next generation service in Washington, DC,” commented WCA President Andrew Kreig.
Held from April 21-23 in Washington, DC, WCA 2008 will convene key players from government and industry to discuss “Capitalizing on the 4G Ecosystem” and feature cutting-edge discussion on broadband wireless applications.
